Booking an Apartment in Bratislava: A Step-by-Step Guide

A hand holding a payment card next to a laptop during an online booking
In short: Choose an apartment in the availability calendar, click your arrival day and departure day in the “Buy a stay” window, add your name, email and phone number, and pay by card. The booking is created only once you have paid; without payment, the dates are not held. The refundable €100 deposit is not paid when you buy the stay. You block it only during online check-in before arrival, after which you receive your access details.

Booking an apartment in Bratislava directly on our website takes just a few minutes if you know what the form will ask for and what to have ready. This guide walks through the whole process in the order you will see it on screen: from choosing your dates, through extras and company invoices, to payment, confirmation and online check-in on the day you arrive. Everything described here applies to buying a stay on kratkodobeubytovanie.sk. If you book through Booking.com or Airbnb, that portal's terms apply.

What to Have Ready Before You Book an Apartment

What usually takes the longest is not the form itself but hunting for details while you fill it in. So it pays to have everything in front of you at once, especially if you are booking for a company or on someone else's behalf.

If you have not yet decided which apartment to choose, the article How to choose an apartment for a short stay will help, and for comparing reviews there is our guide on how to read apartment reviews.

Step 1: Choosing the Apartment and the Dates

The quickest route is the Availability page, where you can see the occupancy of all eight apartments in a single calendar, so you do not have to open each one separately. A green box means a free night, and clicking it opens the purchase of a stay in that apartment. If you have already picked a particular apartment, the “Buy a stay” button on its page opens the same window.

When reading the calendar, it helps to know that each box represents one night starting on that day. The previous guest's departure day is therefore green, because the apartment is vacated by 10:00 and you can arrive from 15:00. A stay can be bought no more than 180 days in advance, and later days are grey. Some dates have a minimum number of nights, which only appears when you select your dates, and the form will not let a shorter stay through.

Take capacity seriously from the start, because if you enter more guests than allowed, the form will not complete the booking and will point out the apartment's maximum capacity.

Step 2: The Form, Extras and Company Invoices

The window for buying a stay opens right on the page and shows an availability calendar at the top. First click your arrival day, then your departure day; if you make a mistake, clear your selection with the “Clear selection” button. Each free night in the calendar shows its price, since prices vary by date, and you will see the exact amount for the whole stay once you have selected your dates.

Extras

Below the calendar you can pay extra for an earlier arrival or a later departure. Early check-in means arriving from 14:00 instead of the standard 15:00, while late check-out means leaving by 11:00 instead of 10:00, and late check-out must be arranged no later than 24 hours before departure. If you need a bigger change than the form offers, write it in the note, because, as our Self check-in page explains, any change to the times depends on the apartment's occupancy.

Your Details and Company Invoices

In the “Your details” section you fill in your contact details and an optional note. Business travellers tick “Company invoice” and add the company details, which then appear on the invoice.

For business trips and longer stays we also have a separate page on long-term accommodation in Bratislava, with what is worth knowing for a stay of several weeks.

What the Final Price Is Made Of

The summary in the form breaks the amount down into items before you pay, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. We do not give specific figures here, because the price of accommodation varies by date and the calendar shows its current amount for each night.

Local tax rates can change, so take the current amount from the form, not from this article. If you would like to know what a whole stay comes to, including food and transport, see the article How much a stay in Bratislava costs.

Step 3: Card Payment and When the Booking Is Created

The “Pay and book” button takes you to the Stripe payment gateway, where you enter your card details. According to its own documentation, Stripe has been certified by an independent auditor as a PCI Service Provider Level 1, the strictest level in the payments industry, and you enter your card number directly on its page.[2]

The order of the steps matters: the booking is created only once you have paid, and without payment the dates are not reserved. If the payment does not go through, no booking is created and you can try again. If you cancel the payment on the Stripe page, you return to the apartment and nothing is charged, because an unpaid booking is never created.

It can happen that while you are entering your card, someone else buys the same dates, for example through Booking.com, whose bookings run in the same system as our calendar. In that case the form tells you the dates have been taken in the meantime and refunds your payment in full.

What Happens Between Payment and Arrival

After a successful payment you will see a confirmation with the apartment name, the dates and the amount marked as paid, and you will also receive the confirmation by email. The next steps all take place online, without meeting any staff, as described in detail in the article Self check-in: how it works.

Online check-in is not a formality you can skip. Under Act No. 253/1998 Coll., accommodation providers must keep a guest register with details from each guest's identity document,[3] which is why the access details appear only after successful verification. If you do not receive the message with the link on the day of arrival, contact us through the website and we will sort it out. If you are arriving late in the evening, you will find practical tips in the article Arriving in Bratislava at night.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When is an apartment booking confirmed?

The booking is created only at the moment your card payment goes through the Stripe gateway, and without payment the dates are not held. Once you have paid, you will see a confirmation with the apartment, the dates and the amount paid, and you will receive the same details by email.

Do I pay the deposit when I book?

No. When you buy a stay, you pay for the accommodation, the cleaning fee, the city tax and any extras. The refundable €100 deposit is blocked on your card only during online check-in before arrival; it is not charged, and the hold is released on the 3rd day after departure provided there is no damage to the apartment.

Can I get a company invoice when I book?

Yes. Just tick “Company invoice” in the form and fill in the company name and registered address, which are required with this option. Add the company ID (IČO), tax ID (DIČ) and VAT ID (IČ DPH) depending on which of these your company has.

How far in advance can I book an apartment?

A stay can be bought no more than 180 days in advance, and later days are greyed out in the calendar. Some dates have a minimum number of nights, which appears when you select your dates, and the form will not accept a shorter stay.

What if the dates are taken while I am paying?

The calendar shares availability with bookings from the portals, so occasionally someone buys the dates before you finish paying. In that case the form tells you the dates have been taken in the meantime and refunds your payment in full.

Conclusion

Booking an apartment directly on our website takes three steps: dates in the calendar, your details in the form and a card payment, after which the booking is created straight away. You do not deal with the deposit or ID documents when you buy; all of that happens during online check-in on the day you arrive. Take a look at all 8 apartments or go straight to availability and pick the one that suits your stay.
