Early Flight from Bratislava: How to Plan Your Last Night

A passenger plane on an airport taxiway in the early morning
In short: For a flight at around six in the morning you need to be at Bratislava airport at roughly four o'clock, because the airport recommends arriving two hours before departure. Daytime public transport is not running yet at that hour: night lines leave the main station for the last time at 3:30 and daytime services start from 4:30, mostly just before five. The safest choice is therefore a taxi booked the evening before, or your own car. Sort out everything you can by nine in the evening: online check-in, packing your suitcase and how you will hand over the keys. If you are flying from Vienna, plan on a bus from Nivy or from the main station and a bigger time margin.

An early flight from Bratislava is not decided in the morning when the alarm goes off. It is decided the evening before, while the city is still up and running, you have a connection and some patience left, and you can calmly check how you will get to the airport. Anyone who opens the timetable for the first time at four in the morning usually finds that the next service leaves too late, and ends up with a pricier taxi or with stress that could have been avoided. This article takes you through the last night before a morning flight in chronological order: what to sort out in the evening, how to get to the airport between three and five, what leaving the apartment before dawn looks like and where it makes sense to spend your last night. We checked the transport details in October 2026 with the carriers and on the airport's website, and you will find the sources at the end.

The Evening Before Your Flight: What to Sort Out by Nine

M. R. Štefánik Airport recommends arriving at least two hours before your scheduled departure with your boarding pass ready. Check-in usually closes 40 minutes before departure, and the exact time is set by the airline in its terms.[4] For a 6:00 flight that means arriving at around four and leaving your accommodation at a time that depends on how far from the airport you are staying. We worked through the full backward calculation from departure time to alarm clock in our article Accommodation near Bratislava Airport. Here we focus on what you can do the evening before, so that all that is left for the morning is walking out of the door.

One simple rule helps with packing: anything you plug into a socket in the evening, write it down straight away or put a note by your shoes. Chargers, adapters and power banks are the things most often left behind in apartments, precisely because they keep charging until the last minute and nobody spots them by the door in the half-light.

How to Get to the Airport Between Three and Five

This is the most important part of the whole plan, because the hours of early departures are exactly when Bratislava's public transport is at its thinnest. Night transport runs from 23:30 to 4:30, and the coordinated departures of night lines from the main station are at 23:30, 0:00, 0:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30.[1] The first morning services on daytime lines set off from 4:30, but in most cases only just before five o'clock.[2]

Option When it runs Who it suits
N61 night line at night, connecting with the departures from the main station, the last one at 3:30[1][3] if you are staying near the main station or Mlynské nivy and do not mind a longer wait at the airport
Daytime line 61 morning services from 4:30, mostly only around five[2] for flights from about seven o'clock, it no longer works for an earlier departure
Taxi through an app around the clock, a ride can be booked in advance[5][6] for flights before seven, families with suitcases and two or more travellers
Your own car at any time, parking at the airport needs to be arranged in advance if you are also returning by car, or if you are staying away from public transport routes

At night the N61 line links the airport with Mlynské nivy bus station and with the main station, where night services from most city districts connect.[3] All stops on night lines are request stops, so you have to signal to the driver with your hand at the stop, otherwise the bus will drive past.[2] Look up the exact N61 departure from your stop and the journey time in the journey planner the evening before, because the table above shows only the general picture, not a specific service.

When it comes to tickets, watch out for luggage, which few people think about in the morning. For most journeys from the airport a 60-minute ticket is enough. It costs €1.80 at the basic fare, or €1.60 if you buy it by tapping your payment card on board, but a bulkier suitcase needs its own reduced 30-minute ticket, which is valid for 300 minutes for luggage.[3] Line 61 is served by trolleybuses with luggage racks by the second and third doors, which is worth knowing before you board a full vehicle.[3]

A Taxi Booked in Advance: How to Do It

For a flight before seven in the morning, a taxi is the simplest solution for most guests, especially if there are two or more of you or you are travelling with children: the difference compared with public transport tickets shrinks and you avoid changing lines with suitcases at four in the morning. Since 1 July 2026 the airport's official taxi partner has been Bolt, which has two dedicated spots in the P1 car park in front of the departure hall and another three in front of the arrivals hall.[5] Before you get in, always compare the car's number plate with the one shown in the app, which the airport explicitly recommends.[5]

With a morning flight, booking ahead gives you more certainty than ordering at the last minute, as there are fewer cars in the city at four in the morning and the wait can drag on. For Bratislava airport, Uber states that you can reserve a ride up to 90 days in advance with a fixed price and free cancellation up to one hour before pickup. Availability of the feature depends on the city and the service, so check it in the app.[6] In the Bolt app, too, check before you travel whether it offers you a scheduled ride in Bratislava, and in the evening make sure the booking really went through. A comparison of the apps, and of when a taxi pays off more than public transport, is in our article Taxi, Bolt and Uber in Bratislava.

An Early Flight from Vienna with a Night in Bratislava

Vienna's Schwechat airport has a wider choice of morning flights, and many guests staying in Bratislava fly from there. Slovak Lines runs buses to Schwechat airport from Nivy bus station, where they leave from platform 7 on level -1, and from the main station from platform H, with free Wi-Fi on board.[7] The timetable changes with the season, so look up the specific morning service in the carrier's app or on its website before you book your accommodation, and buy your ticket in advance.

Nivy bus station is open around the clock, but outside the shopping centre's opening hours you can only get in through the entrance by the Nivy Tower building, and the ticket office does not sell tickets at night.[8] For a flight from Vienna, add the journey across the border and a margin for traffic to the two hours at the airport, so your morning start from Bratislava tends to be a little earlier still than for a flight from the home airport. We have summed up other ways of travelling between Bratislava and Vienna in our article Getting to Bratislava.

Check-Out Before Dawn

The standard check-out time at our apartments is by 10:00 at the latest, so leaving early at three or four in the morning breaks no rule and you can leave the apartment at any time before then.[9] You do not need a reception that would have to be open at that hour, since both arrival and departure work without meeting anyone in person, as our article Self check-in: how it works and why it saves time describes. What to do with the keys when you leave is explained in your stay instructions, and if anything at all is unclear, message us in the evening while there is still time for a reply.

Before you close the door, it is worth walking through the apartment once more with the main lights on, not just by the bedside lamp. Check the sockets and chargers, the bathroom, the fridge and the space under the bed, because getting a forgotten item back after you have flown is complicated and comes with postage. Having your own kitchen is an advantage for an early flight that a hotel cannot offer at four in the morning: prepare breakfast to take with you the evening before, because the cafés by the gate are more expensive and there tends to be a queue at them for early flights.

If, on the other hand, you have time to fill between check-out and a later flight, the problem is the opposite one and you need somewhere to leave your suitcase for half a day. We covered luggage storage in the city and at the stations in our article Luggage storage in Bratislava.

Where to Spend Your Last Night

For morning flights, comfort comes down mainly to the distance from the airport and whether you can leave a car at your accommodation. The SADBA apartment is on Ivánska cesta, which is on the route of line 61, and the Ivanská cesta stop is the sixth stop from the terminal, so the morning transfer is much shorter here than from the centre. Parking is included in the price, in a guarded compound behind a barrier, which is appreciated by guests who drive to the airport and drive back again.

If you are spending your last day in the centre and still want an evening stroll, accommodation closer to the main station is the better choice, as all the night departures leave from there. One example is the CASTE apartment on Zámocká Street. For a single night between arrival and departure, it is worth looking at our apartments for a one-night stay in Bratislava, and if you are instead flying in late in the evening, you will find practical tips for a night arrival in our article Arriving in Bratislava late at night.

Conclusion

You can handle an early flight from Bratislava without stress if you sort out three things the evening before: a boarding pass on your phone, booked transport to the airport and a clear plan for leaving your accommodation. The hardest window is between half past three and five in the morning, when the night lines have finished and the daytime ones have not yet set off, so for a flight before seven, plan on a taxi or a car. If you want your morning to be as short as possible, choose accommodation closer to the airport with parking on site for your last night.
